OK, so the head gaskets needed to be replaced on my 90 FSB, so I scored a 92 FSB to drive until it warms up enough to fix the other one. Well, yesterday driving home the tranny started to slip pretty bad and I barely made it to NAPA around the corner.

I figured a cooler line probably blew or something and I crawled under the truck to check it out. To my horror trans fluid was HOSING out of the bottom of the bellhousing.

So I went into NAPA and the guy said it was most likely the front pump seal and ordered one for me, 8.00 bucks. SO, can anyone who has replaced one tell me how much of a pain in the @ss I'm looking at? The Bronco won't fit in the garage so I'm going to have to drag out the Carrhart suit and change it in the driveway. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

whats wrong with Carharts? I wear them all the time!!! I attempted this task on my old f-150 once. Notice the word attempt. I was in high school and somewhat new to working on cars. So I had my pops get it done and after the pocket full of curse words and a couple hours later he got it done. I got the eye and he made me give him $20 for a case of beer. My guess its its gonna be a tough one!

Yes, while the front seal is cheap, it's a bear to replace. Drop the tranny after unbolting the torque conv from the flexplate and removing the torque conv. Somehow pry out the old seal and drive on the new one around the input shaft. I used a piece of tubing and a wood block, tapping the block with a hammer to seat the new seal with the tubing. Re-install the torque conv., put the tranny back in and bolt up the flex plate. I rented a tranny jack from a local rental store for about $35. Or you can pay a tranny shop about $400 to do the work, as it's a bit of labor. I don't think you can change the seal with the tranny in the bronco, JSM84

pay close attention to your torque converter as it may need replacing as well. i just got my tranny back in 2 weeks ago from the same exact problem. i needed a torque converter as well. hopefully you'll have better luck.
