IF the C6 from the 79 was mated to a 351M/ 400M motor, it will not bolt up to the 95 351W as the bellhousing bolt patterns are different. The E40D is also controlled by the ECM (computer), so swapping to another tranny would mean either changing ECm's or modifying it to work with a non-computercontrolled tranny. There's als o the issue of the transfer case shift linkage, since it's specific to each tranny type. JSM84

ok... so the c6 is out of the question... and the linkage wouldnt be a problem.. i have a few friends who are fabricators... but i would rather not mess with the computer...

thanks for the info...

That is a very good suggestion, too. If you search back a while, you may find a thread where I posted some info on links on swapping to the ZFseries (S-42 or S-47). you'll want to look for one for a smallblock V-8/ 351W and not a big block/ 460 or diesel.

You'll still need to address the ECM issue with any trans swap. I believe there is still some info on www.fordfuelinjection.com about the ECm, since the motor will not run like normal without input from the tranny. the ZF is not ECM-controlled like the E40D.
