first give the shift motor and solenoid that's mounted to the back of the case a firm but gentle tap with a hammer. hit it in various areas around the cylinder. sometimes it will get locked up and freeze, and a simple tap will break it loose. otherwise, go to the junkyard and replace the motor, its super easy and cheaper if you avoid the stealership. if you can soder or crimp wires, and can turn a couple bolts, you can do this.
