Transfer Case Mounts

I just rebuilt my engine (302), transmission and transfer case, while installing the trans/xfr case to the body, it appears that the rear drive shaft is much closer to the body than I remember. I purchased new mounts for the xfr case to crossmember and I installed the thicker of the two mounts on top of the crossmember (between the xfr case and crossmember) and the smaller of the two on the bottom of the crossmember - does any one know if this is correct - I'm hoping that when installing the engine it will pull the front of the transmission up giving me more clearance for the constant velocity joint.

Nothing should be connecting to the body. The shifter goes up thru the body but that all. I'm sure this was just a typo.

You have it correct, hick spacer on top, smaller below.

Yes you will be able to lift the trans upwards to meet the engine height. What size lift do you have?

Thank you for your reply - your right I don't have the tranny or xfr case mounted directly to the body, just the cross member that the unit mounts to. I was just concerned after mounting the unit that I may have had the spacers to the cross member reversed causing the unit to be too close to the body itself. I wanted to make sure the mounts were correct before install the engine. Hopefully the engine will pull the front of the tranny up causing the rear of the xfr case to drop and give me more clearance for the constant velocity joint.

It will raise the front. Nothing to worry about as you haven't changed anything over stock so it all bolts up and fits. You can lower the t-case end if need be. Doing this you have to make sure not to go too low otherwise it will cause the front yoke to head up hill and cause a bind in the front driveline. Usually not a problem with 1-4" lifts. Its good for the rear driveline angle but you will need to find the happy medium for both shafts.

I found myself asking the same question when I was working on my '73 rising rust project. After I put the transmission, and engine back and all was bolted together, it all looked correct again. This as been a great project. I think I know just enough to be dangerous with my bronco. But damn its fun!!!!
