is the tranny in an 84 a C4? is the tranny in an 89 or 90 a AOD? both have a 351 W. if they are different, will the AOD bolt up to the 84?

yo!

AOD Identification; If the shifter has a P-R-N-OD-D-1 pattern, the transmission must be an AOD (applicable to 1980-1993 vehicles). If a 1989-1996 truck has an Overdrive Cancel Switch and a P-R-N-OD-2-1 shifter pattern, then it is equipped with an E4OD transmission

Ahh, once again I'm stuck saying the SAME thing, listen to Misek <grin>. There's no chance you have a C4. It's either a C6 or an AOD and you need to just look at the shift pattern on the column & then double ck the shape of the tranny pan. Info on both was in his post. Just by way of info sure, an AOD will bolt to a 351 regardless of what year it's in (you may need to swap tranny Xmembers to make everything work but the tranny & engine will bolt up just dandy)
