Tranny question

I have a 74 with a 302 and auto transmission and I was told the module needs to be replaced and I called checker for the part but they need to know what color of ring is on it and I have no idea where to look because on the outside it's all bronze colored and I don't see any strip of color. Do I have to drop the pan to see it or what? Any advice would be helpful.
