Hi all,
I recently purchased two 1996 broncos and need to transport them roughly 1,000 miles. I am unable to have someone help me so I have looked into renting a uhaul auto transport trailer and towing one with the other. Is this a terrible idea? The Uhaul auto trailers have brakes and the total tow capacity should not be exceeded. I am used to towing large wakeboard boats, but they have been with fullsize modern suvs.

Any advice/comments/concerns are appreciated.

Prep the Bronco like you would any other vehicle you would tow with. Happy Towing. Send pictures!

Keep tire pressures up to max.
Don't load the bronco backwards.
Make sure you have tongue weight, lots of it. As a quick reference I measure the bumper height on the tow vehicle and make sure it drops a couple inches before I strap the vehicle down. With a u-haul you may not have enough room to make it like you want.

Then just take your time till you are comfortable. You don't have to tow something at 75 mph. If I get a heavy or difficult load I just set the cruise at like 62 and relax and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for all the responses. I know my towing Bronco has the towing package, but what kind of towing pin connector (the wires that connect the trailer to the towing truck) will I need? Is there a specific brand that work better for broncos than another?

Sorry for the newbie questions. I am used to towing with much more modern vehicles.

@Tiha - I am going from New York to Texas, so I will be sitting comfy at 55mph the whole way more than likely haha, but thank you

U-haul uses their own connectors, at least they used to, so as long as you have a four pin flat connector you are good to go.

Assuming the the towed vehicle is an automatic you should check the owner's manual to see whether the transmission is safe to be towed with the rear wheels on the ground. I have seen some automatics which limit the towed distance to 45mph and 50 miles.

I wouldn't tow an automatic with rear wheels on the ground unless the transfer case was in neutral (short distance) or better yet...the rear driveshaft was removed. It's really easy to remove and then there's nothing to worry about.

Really appreciate all of your help and suggestions. I made it, but would never recommend it. The trailer sway over 50 mph was horrible so a 24 hour drive turned into a 30 hour drive.

Glad you made it work, and even better to know that a Bronco fits on a U-HauI trailer. I do see how the trailer would be prone to sway. the nose of the trailer is definitely tipp'd down. I think flipping your ball would of helped pick the nose of the trailer up a lil'.

I have noticed that the springs on my '91 Bco are shot so I would have to replace them before towing with it again.
