I was wondering how much of a pain in the butt it was to take the top off my 91 bronco. My dad says it's way harder than it's worth and that I'll never get it sealed back up right and blah blah blah. Just curious thanx.

I had mine off all summer, it was easy to take off too. Just unbolt it then get 1 friend and lift it off, dont slide it that f*cks the seal up. I set mine on level ground with 2 fence post under it for the whole summer, went right back on when winter hit too, no leaks what so ever.

Its really easy to take off the top (unless it is the first time your bronco has ever had its top taken off.) The first time I took the top off my bronco every single bolt was rusted in. I got all the bolts out that I could then I ended up having to cut off the other bolts with bolt cutters. Now since I replaced all the bolts and clips, it only takes about 15min and one helper to take off. Also, I only have four bolts that hold the top down now and my seals have never leaked. Trust me, its worth it.

Nah, not to contradict your Old Man but it's not very difficult to remove and as long an you take care of the gasket it'll reseal without any problems. The gasket is rarely a problem, I've *never* had one give me any grief and I've had more Bronco's than I can count and have pulled the top off every one of them. Ck the gasket when it's off but as long as it isn't ripped, wrinkled or messed up it will be just fine when you reinatall the top. If by some odd chance the gasket DOES cause you problems you can easily get a new one, this stuff isn't rocket science it's very straightforward and easy to work with and repair. Now if your Dad just flat out doesn't want you to do it then, well, you kinda have to respect the guys wishes but really, removing & replacing the top rarely causes any sort of problem. I prefer to just take mine off and set it aside, but if you're looking for an alternative I recently picked-up a spare top for $75 froma local scrapyard (mine was a bit expensive because most other guys seem to be getting theirs for $50). The top has no side glass and I hacked a 4'x4' hole in the top and it's pretty slick in *my* opinion. Attached are pics of the truck ******* and with the modified top. Kick both ideas around.

Truth be told the top is just fiberglass and offers NO additional protection in the event of a roll-over or other accident. Having it on or off won't make a lick of difference. It's never a bad idea to install a rollcage and maybe if you do so it'll put the Old Man's mind at ease, but either way that fiberglass top *isn't* adding any strength or roll-over protection to the truck, the cab and the larger reinforced section just in *front* of the hardtop-to-cab interface is what gives you rollover protection.

The Bronco was designed with a "REMOVABLE" hardtop. KEy word is "REMOVEABLE", so it's designed to be taken off and put back on with no major problems. The top weighs about 120 pounds, so it's best to have a friend help you. There's a few links to top removal in "Miesk5's Homepage", look up the link in the Tech Articles forum. The only bad thing i can think of about taking the top off is that you just might like it so much without it that you never want to put it back on. I took the top of my 84 Bronco about 4 years ago, and haven't had it back on since. To store it, place it flat on top of a couple posts or 2x4's to keep from crushing the seals on the bottom. If you stand it up against the wall or store junk on top of it, it can warp over time, JSM84

Thanx for the info. I figured it wasn't that difficult. I tried to tell the old man that it was removable and would go back on no problem but he didn't wanna listen to me. I'll twist it around and make it so it was his idea and he'll be all about it, lol. So now I think I might just have to take the top off this summer. Thanx
