timming advance?

how far should i advance my timming to i thought i read that your supposed to advance it 6deg+ but i might be wrong

Most Broncos are set around 10 to 12. It is usually listed on the emissions sticker.

I have always set my timing by advancing it as far as I can until it starts pinging when you put it under load. Like as though you were going to do a brakestand, but not quite. When you reach the point of pinging then I back the timing off just a little and try starting it a couple times, If it starts good, turns over fast like it should, thats where I leave it. I have done this with every vehicle I have owned For the last 15 years and it works for me.

yea u can do it that way, mines pretty much like that cept a little more backed off because i run regular, just make sure it dont ping because thats a very bad thing to happen for your motor [-X

i cant get it right im gonna need to get a timming gun cuz its just not hooking up right it kinda sluggish and the idle rpm is high and im not getting any ping from the engine it seem like i have a bad plug but the whole ignition system is brand new shit the whole top half of the engine is rebuilt and it sounds real mean till i take off then is starts to get sluggish any thoughts?
