Any advice or links to already posted topics appreciated. I am thinking seriously of this. Is it do it yourself-able? What tools necessary?

Bedling? I meant Bedlining.....

Very doable, the key is in the prep work. when you think its good enough do more. All your good prep work will be invisible beside the shortcuts. take your time and do a good job.

Use the best products available to you

Take your time on the prep work. Do more than what is necessary for it.

I took an entire day for prep on mine and then an entire day for the actual application.

You'll be very happy with the results if you take your time.

A lot of directions tell you to "rough" up the surface paint, but I actually sanded my entire back down. Every inch.

Mine has been done for about a year now and still looks brand new. No dents, scratches or peeling.

The only problem is that it collects dust really easy.

Just take a damp cloth and go over it.

I removed the back seat belt brackets and grinded off the seat belt studs in the wheel well. I put the liner in the bolt holes so it wouldn't rust through.

What liner are you going with?

I did herculiner.

MS, a search for "bedliner" produced this list:

http://broncozone.com/forums/index.php?act...=%5Cbedliner%5C

I also used Herculiner on my interior, and Dupli-Color on my frame. Both products look good for a while, but they are flaking and peeling after a couple years. The herculiner now is a bout 50% gone, and gets black dust on my elbows or clothes when working on the floor. It would prolly help to wash it more often, but I think it would flake off more. I spent 8-10 hours prepping before applying it, too. It might last longer if the hardtop was on, and the liner wasn't exposed to the elements all the time. JSM84

Deafening as opposed to what? I have the carpet out now and I cant imagine it being louder with bedliner. I love the sound of a good exhaust and if I get tired of it, the volume on the radio goes up.

Yo Slim,

I did my interior with duplicolor and my exterior with Durabak. The duplicolor is decent, but is far inferior to the durabak. My durabak has been on the outside for a year and is the toughest stuff I've ever seen. I used the textured but wish i had gone for the smooth.

The inside of the truck is def. louder than when I had carpet, but I would still recommend doing this as long as you don't mind some engine noise. If you've already removed the carpet its a no brainer.

You'll get what you pay for with the products, and prep truly is everything. Prep took longer than application for me. Sand really good and clean with the correct solvent for the stuff you're applying. Acetone for duplicolor, xylene for the durabak. I applied with the roller and it went on great. Not sure what solvent herc uses - never tried it.

I can't recommend that durabak enough. It's the toughest stuff I've ever seen. Here's the link , it's only available online. Branches will fear you.

Check out Steve's (Bossind's) site. . He did the bedliner and then re installed the carpet. He posts on this site occasionally. His write ups are the finest I've seen - bar none. Very cool stuff. Half of the projects I've done have come from his write ups. The rear bumper build is awesome - something similar is next for me.
