I have a 1995 Eddie Bauer temperature gauge is running hot, truck is not overheating. I keep replacing antifreeze but it is only a temporary fix. Do I need to replace thermostat? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated thanks

Hi Brodie.., welcome..!

Too much "antifreeze/coolant" will overheat an engine. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

"...temperature gauge is running hot,"

I'm guessing you're meaning  reading hot..? (i.e. past normal)

---- because,

you say "truck is not overheating"

How do you know this..?

The lazer temp reader fr. Harbor Freight is cheap & a good tester for engine temp.

As to usual issues;

The temp sending unit could be faulty.

Water pump

Dirty radiator (actual overheating)

Stuck thermostat (actual overheating)

Bad temp gage. (least likely)

HI it's reading really Hot, and still driving normal though. On short trips it's somewhat normal and then climbs to HOT! close to 182000 miles and havent had any issues previously. Trying to keep him alive as long as I can thanks for the advice I think it's time to bring him  to a mechanic! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Now this info sounds more like the thermostat.

(a bit messy but an easy fix)

T-stat must face the proper way when installed. (directional flo)

But worst case.., could be two (or more) isues in play here.

Also.., you don't want to run it "hot" until it doesn't run normal...

This can do serious damage..

Thank you, that's what I've heard. I drove 2 hours like that yesterday and now I am worried...I appreciate your good advice, and I looked up your laser temp reader- sounds cool! I try to fix things myself, but I guess this calls for professional help...Thanks Bully Bob
