Temp gauge doesn't work on my 78. Where's the best place to start? Thermostat ? Sender? Gauge itself?

I already have to take the dash off, because the gauges don't light up.

Ran into the same problem myself after i already had a new thermostat, I resolved it by getting a new electric temp guage and mounting under the dash

Might be as simple as the wire connection to the temp sender. Try cleaning the connector, then see if it works. If that dosen't work, try grounding the temp sender wire, and see if the gauge moves to hot. If it does, then the sender is bad.

Like Runnin'OnEmpty said senders and connections are the most common problems . Don't use teflon tape on it, the threads are designed to seal and are needed to make the ground side of the connection.

Good luck,

:)>-
