Thanks for the help >Yes it does look like that. You can remove the decorative panel by removing the nuts that hold the mounting hardware. To get at them, it would be easiest to remove the window and the window regulator mechanism. Once they are out of the way, the nuts holding the mounting hardware can be removed.
Good luck,

Huh, why did mine have hardware to remove for each of the mounting brackets? Each had two pins that enter through the sheet metal and either nuts or spring type clips, 4 of which were behind the regulator. Neither part is difficult to remove and replace, so taking them out of the way makes working inside of the tail gate easier in the long run. After having done that once the job only takes about a 1/2 hour for removal and 1/2 hour to reinstall.x said:Xxxx.
Well maybe my memory is defective. Perhaps I already had it all apart when I took my panel off. I'll have to look at that next spring when I unwrap the old girl. But I still say it is a heck of lot easier when mucking around in there to get the window completely out of the way, it only takes a few minutes. 2 screws and 4 nuts and it's out.x said:Xxxxxx
You can get it at LMC Truck http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/fd/full.aspx?Page=35Steve where did you get the outer tailgate whether strip for $24???
Thanks!
If you remove the weather strip the window slides out with no problem, no need to remove the hardware that is riveted to the glass. You just need to be careful removing the window weather strip which is easily done if you are careful and then take off the end seals. I've done it numerous times with no problem, just requires a gentle pry at each point where it hooks into the metal. There is a danger of bending the weather strip if you are not careful but if the tail gate is old you probably would be better off in the long run to replace them with new ones.x said:Xxxxxx
I am not arguing with you. If you read the last post you would note that I clarified what I was saying about removing the window when working on the inside of the tail gate. I didn't say you are wrong and I am right, I said that there is more than one way to approach things.x said:Xxxxxx
