Hi, I just took apart my tailgate window (1986) assembly to see if I could fix the window/motor so I can roll the damn thing up and down. I took the regulator out and cleaned it up/re-lubed it, along with the window tracks, and all moving parts. I installed a new motor but I have no response from either the dash switch or the key switch. I noticed 2 things: 1. There were 2 wires (that I guess were cut by the previous owner) that come from the harness that goes to the keyed switch; Im not sure where they go to so I can repair them. 2. There is also a connector hanging by itself behind my drivers side tail light. Im sure these have something to do with my problem but Im not sure where they go; I was thinking about comparing with another Bronco but any info is appreciated.

Here is a picture of the harness, the wires going to my motor are still there; its the very bottom set on the harness that have been cut on mine.

In case it doesnt come up you can see at this address:

The bottom set is for the window defroster element. Diagram of the circuit attached. When you have it hooked up, you should have 12V on the black with white stripe wire all the time. That is for the rear door key switch. The other two wires change function based on which direction the driver switch is pushed and requires the key to be in RUN or ACCESSORY. Ground for the motor returns to the driver switch and then to ground. If the driver switch is not in the center position, the rear switch will not work.

Good luck,

:)>-

I thought it might be for the defrost, just wasn't sure. I think my limit switch in the latch is bad, I'm gonna check it on Thursday. Thanks for the input.

If the safety switch is bad, then it shouldn't work from the driver switch either. That switch does become a PITA and a lot of people bypass it, feeling that they (me among them) are smart enough to not close the tail gate with the window partially or completely up

I found on my 90 the key switch in the tailgate was bad and bypassed the whole tailgate wiring harness. I can only open it from the dash, but hey that's better than it not opening! If interested I can tell you how I did it.
