recently on my 93 had to replace my gate because the previous owner thought that it was ok to ***** plexi glass ino the roof and hold shut by rope to the seat belt so that sets the tone for my latest battle with this truck

when i went to hook the wires up found that they were green from front to back so replaced them but bypassed the tailgate switch as i dont have a key for it when i tried it the window goes up no problem but wont lower so i removed the motor and pluged into the door switch and it woks fine so re-installed it in gate and tried switching the positive leads at the switch and it will lower so am wondering if the 2 grounds coming off can be conected without feeding back into itself and if the are and window still dont work is prob the switch right ??? any other ideas i am getting soaked (it has been raining for the last few days and the '88 is in my garage waiting for my dist to arrive)

Wiring Diagram by off-road.com

One of the most frequently asked tech questions is "Why does my window go down(up) with either the dash(key) switch but will not go up(down) with other one?"

The problem is probably in one of the two switches. Notice that both switches are in the circuit in one form or another even if that switch is not being used. Also the 2 wires going between the switches and one of the 2 ground wires coming out of the dash switch are always used."

-----------------------------------------

See how both switches (dash & TG) control the Grounds?

btw, "green" meaning they were corroded or the insulation covering was green?

the wires in particular the pink with green tracer was pretty much black and corroded into to pieces at one point i re-ran it and the pink with blue tracer direct from dash switch to motor eliminating the tailgate switch as i dont have a key for it anyway but the down portion of the switch does not work even after the rewire however when i reverse the wires at the switch it will lower not raise so know that motor an wires are good am suspicous of the switch or the ground at the switch

circuit.gifthis is the current wire set up

Agreed, it sounds like one side of the switch is bad or the ground wire connection to it is bad. You're hot on the trail.

PS, the wire color code is wrong in that diagram. The one labled pink / light green should be purple / light green. Just a bit of trivia.

Good job Fred! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

BTW, all diagrams I've seen in Chilton & Haynes & on-line Manuals show pink / light green & pink / light blue between driver's switch & tg switch and of course the black/white.

Only a few show the purple / lt green such as our good buddy Chris:

ok probblem solved beieve it or not a damn spider was to blame when i opened up the switch to try cleaning the contacts i found a very dead spider and her large nest (complete with equally dead off spring) in where the contact point is removed nest and now works just fine that may explaine why when checked power i had faint traces at the back of the switch but not full power

moral of the story if it bugs ya it may be bugs after all
