A.A. is correct, the NP205 should bolt right up to your AOD. WHile you will need a new crossmember to fit the NP205, the bolt pattern is the same as the B-W 13-56 you have now. Try searching the tech articles forum, and if you still need some help, come back here with any questions.

I am aware that the adapter are (almost) the same but it has to be modified to mak it clear the selecter rail. which is not a problem BUTT its aluminum and the origionals for the 205 are a much stronger steal. do you know someone who has done this and it worked ok?

Here's a link on the opposite of what you want to do, but it has good info on the adapter you asked about:

NP205-B-W1356

I think your question concerns the transfer case to tranny adapter, which is the short piece that joins the two items together. IF you don't have the 6" NP205 adapter, you will need to notch the B-W1356 adapter for the NP205's shifter rail. I would be concerned about the strength of the 3" aluminum adapter after notching it, since the NP 205 is 65-70 pounds heavier.

I have not done this swap to an AOD, since I don't think it's as strong or reliable as the C-6. But I would search some salvage yards and classifieds for the stronger iron NP205 adapter, since that would bolt up to an AOD or E4OD or a C6. OR make sure you get one with the Np205 when you buy it.

I am going to check the link, but i have already purchased the adapter for the 205 and it doesn't fit to the trans properly. its bigger in diameter.

Are you sure the adapter is for a Ford tranny, not a Chevy or Dodge?

Hmm, then it may be possible that your AOD has a different rear housing than a C-6?, although I thought they were the same as far as mounting a t-case. So as I see it, either notch your AOD's t-case adapter, or replace the whole tranny with a C-6, in order to mount the NP205. Let me see what esle I can find on modifying the aluminum adapter.

JSM84! thanks for all of your help, i have actually just come up with a solution! i have access to a machine shop and i'm going to fab an adapter to mate the steel 205 adapter to the trans somthing like how you mate a chevy motor to a ford trans (only god knows why you would do that) but they do it and as for the c6, i actually wanted to but cant becouse of smog regulations, just bought a brand new aod

thank again for all your help, maybe talk again soon, i'll let you know how it works

Whem I swapped my AOD for a C6 in my 89 I didnt have to do anything to the T case other than extend the shifter rod . I am pretty sure that as Justshootme84 said all for T cases use the same input splines and the same bolt pattern . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I have seen the special adapters that allow a t-case to be rotated for better clearance, so making one similar to that should work. I'm just surprised the AOD is that much different than the C-6 in the back. If I find something over at Pirate4x4.com ,I'll let you know, JSM84. Good Luck!!!

they are the same spline and even the same pattern on the t case side but the trans tailshaft is very slightly different. i am sure i have the trans both adapters and the t case out the adapter i bought is a ford as it says (ford) right on it. the only other possibility is that its not from a c6. i thought it was  if anyone knows how to run the numbers here they are

Ok that explains it I knew they were all the same on the T case side but the tranny side Im thinking there all different . I know an E4OD one wont fit a C6 and stick ones wont fit auto,s because that side has to match up to the ranny housing so Im thinking that you would have to find a tailshaft peice for the kind of tranny you have Ford was good about keeping the T case side the same for everything but they must not have been able to help themselves on the otherside and make it a little difficult . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
