Swapping Transmissions

My son and I have picked up a 1986 project Bronco. We want to turn into a good hunting machine and his 1st vehicle (yep, in that order). We are pulling the engine (a 302EFI) and the automatic trans. We want to rebuild the motor and change out the 4 speed OD trans for a manual. Any recommendations on the engine and can the trans be swapped out without gutting everything.

Don't know why you'd want a manual if you're going to be 4X4'ing. Manuals are too much work and hills are more of a problem. I have a Bronco II manual and am concidering changing to auto. Suggest you keep your auto and get it rebuilt.
