Swaping inner axle shafts?

Does any one know if the inner axle shafts(the shaft that runs thru the spindle to the hub) from a 1990 Dana Axle are interchangeable with a 1987 Dana axle? I am asking because I had to put a front axle from an '87 into my '90 bronco and the spindle and hub are pretty much shot on the axle from the '87. I have all the parts from the '90 axle but unfortunately the inner axle shafts on the '87 are too short to just swap out the hubs. Sorry if this doesn't make much sense. i looked at the conversion kit at BroncoGraveyard and it looks like i should be able to just swap the shafts but dont want to do all the labor if its not going to work.
