I am a new owner of a 96' Bronco with a 351. Noticed a surge at low speeds (25-30 MPH) Its odd, if I try to mainain a 25 or 30 MPH speed it surges and is indicated on the tach as well. If I step on the gas it stops and accelerates normal. It does not happen in park or neutral just under a load. Anyone have any ideas? My thoughts are fuel feed system, maybe a clogged fuel filter or dirty injector.

Fuel sending unit maybe, mine will feel a little strained then all of a sudden its hauling and peppy. Im just to lazy to drop the tank till it demands my attention.

Is there anyway to test the sending unit without draining and dropping the tank?

Huh..? fail to see how a sending unit can cause surging... unless they mean the pick-up tube (strainer) being somewhat plugged.

Fuel filt. or a weakening pump would be good guesses. B)

i call it throtle body, old habit. just spray the butterfly valve. sometimes it builds up carbon residue and will start wanting to stick causeing the engine to start surging. mine did it in idle parked, and idle in gear.

Thx, I will try that. Today my check engine light came on. Engine still runs great however. Might be O2 sensor??
