Okay, this is one of those things that I need help with that really ****** me off. It's a really stupid little thing and I can't seem to figure it out. I mean I can rebuild an engine and do just about any other major task, but something as small as this defeats me.

Anyways, I had to replace my headlight **** and rod because the old one was bent. Now the new rod and **** (purchased from Bronco Graveyard) don't seem to latch together correctly. Originally I thought they were together fine, but I ran into two problems. One, when I pushed in the **** it would go past the point where my radio dimmer control would not turn up, meaning I had to slightly pull it back out just far enough where the dimmer control on my radio would come on but the dash lights would stay off. Second, one night I went to turn on the lights and the know pulled right off. So today I pulled the rod and **** out and it seems that they wont latch together. I noticed that there is two scored lines on the end of the rod, I am assuming that it is supposed to latch into the line furthest from the end, but the rod won't push in that far.

Any ideas?

I thought that might be the problem, at first. So pulled my dash apart to get to the rod release button, took the rod out, then put the rod and **** together befor placing it in the headlight switch. It seems that the clip on the **** was bent a bit flat, once I pushed it back in place it seems to latch onto the first scored line fine. So the issue with the **** pulling right off is fixed, however it still seems that when I push in the **** it goes to far and my dimmer still doesn't work. So I am wondering if maybe the rod isn't seated in the **** far enough, and it is supposed to be latched into the second scored line. At this point I am about ready to just shim the headlight switch retaining ****** so it is held back just far enought to make it so the rod doesn't push all the way back.
