im driving a 90 bronco with automatic hubs. i need to replace the studs on one rotor. i removed the hub assembly up until the first bearing adjustment nut??? the outer locknut from this picture bearing adjustment . i have the spanner wrench used to remove it but all it is doing is spinning. is there a trick to get this locknut off. also i read that the scond locknut may be cross threaded is this a valid assumption. thanks for the help

Take a small sharp chisel and cut it off. Then after you get the hub off-check the threads to make sure they are not damaged. Most likely they WILL NOT BE.If they are--get a jewlers file and carefully file off the off thread. But most of the time the bolt is the one messed up. After everything looks good (you may need a magnifying glass to get a realy good look) --get a new bolt and make sure all the burs and pieces of metal are removed--then replace everything back in order

I doubt a chisle will do you anny good. Gonna take too much beating to cut the ratcheting lock nut. unfortunately the threads on the nut or threads on the hub are stripped at the point where the nut is at. will the nut tighten up at all ? i have seen some that needed a little inward pressure on the socket(moderate pressure with hand pushing socket into the nut) while turning to bring them off.

Sometimes you can tap on the stud and it will align the botl up with the thread and you can take a sharp small chisel and cut on one side of the bolt .Then with a gap one one side --you can get it off. I have done it myself.
