stuck in 1st

hello again. looking for help again. my 89 had a 5,o auto with it .and i swapped it out for a 90 351 auto. both are f/i. the problem is it will not get out of 1st gear.the linkage is not in a bind cause i can shift it thru all with the truck off. but when running it won't go get out of 1st. try in 2wd and 4wd while driving. the fluid is not low. first thing i checked. other than that i haven't a clue.lol any help please thanks.....scott

It's a aod, i did connect the tv cable, but how do i adjust it now.lol

ok i adjusted the tv cable but still stuck in 1st.the 351 came out of a c6 tranny and put it in mine witch has a aod tranny . bolted up fine but do i need to change out flex plates or`something else? as far as driving more than a mile it has .all weekend in the mud. just would not get out of 1st gear. any more help would be gratefull thanks..........scott

did you bolt the torque converter to the engine before bolting the motor to the tranny? or did you slide the TC foreward after the engine and tranny were together?

i bolted the torque converter to the engine first then the motor to the tranny

you don't need another tranny what you need to do is get the trans cleaned out by a professional to check for damage and buy a new torque converter.

I did the same thing with my 429 and c6 combo only I had 2nd and no 3rd.

what you will have to do next time is put the TC on the Transmission, make sure the slots line up and push the TC as far as it will go almost against the back of the bell housing before getting the motor anywhere near the transmission.

also if you keep using it like that then soon enough you won't have any gears forwards or backwards. and I'm talking less than 50 miles
