I'm new here....just bought a fairly original '74 and drove it 250 miles back to the house. In the process of removing the dash pad, I ran into a serious snag. One of the two large bolts that hold the winshield in the UP position apparently cross-threaded and caused the nut (which was built into the windshield frame) to break free. The result is that I cannot remove the bolt to allow the winshield to fold down and cannot tighten the bolt up either. DERN IT!! (
I can get a sawzall in there to cut the bolt and fold the windshield down...but then what?...Has anyone experience this agony. Is this a common failure?
The truck was recently painted and the bolt was new (not original Ford-type bolt). I suspect an impact wrench was used to cross thread the bolt when it was installed.
When I finally get the dash pad off...any recommendations on obtaining a replacement/refurbish?
thanks
AJ
