Ok here's the deal, I have a 79 Bronco, 400, its my mud truck. Last spring I got stuck and twisted the driveshaft in half, snapped a front u-joint, tore the rag joint, and lost the bumper, and blew a gasket? on the gearbox.

The steering gearbox is leaking from the top, right around the cover, Can I just remove the cover and put a new gasket on? Or is there something special that I have to do to remove it because of that adjusting *****?

In order to remove that "cover"you must position the front wheels straight then remove the pitman arm and only remove the 7/8" bolts not the adjusting nut. pull it straight up there is an oring under the top. Now all of this being said to show it is possable. It will be better to remove the gear box from the vehicle and reseal the box at all points.

Why would I have to take the pitman arm off? Are you saying that the entire shaft is attached to that cover.
