Hey guys I recently bought a 1989 Bronco XLT and am looking to update my steering wheel with a aftermarket wheel and hub +quick release.

I unfortunately cannot find any info on which set up to use. Has anyone here done this? If so I'd love a link on what to buy. Please and thank you :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

yo Chase,

WELCOME!

Installation, Grant in an 89
Source: by Andrew K (Andy351, das panzer, sloppy seconds, the magic carpet)

Decided to spend a little of my tax return on some bling and fix something ugly thats been staring me in the eye since i got the bronco. the stock late 80s steering wheels are ***** flexy, and i don't like how awkward they are with the 2 legs only at the bottom.

Picked up a Grant #748, 4 spoke 14" 3" dish wheel and install kit #3249

steerage-002.jpg

remove the 2 phillips screws holding the horn/cruise button cover

pop the cover off and disconnect the wiring to get it out of the way

steerage-004.jpg

remove the nut holding the wheel to the steering shaft (15/16")

steerage-005.jpg

use a steering wheel puller to pop the steering wheel off

steerage-006.jpg

once the stock wheel is off, you need to slide this sleeve over the steering shaft. this helps allow the Grant adapter to fiticon1.png snugly.

yo, Part II;

Had to break up reply bec. I had exceeded allowed image count

steerage-007.jpg
here is the Grant adapter in place on the steering shaft, note the orientation of the wires.

steerage-008.jpg

here is the cover from the installation kit. install the cover and then the bracket for the backside of the steering wheel

steerage-009.jpg

steerage-010.jpg

here it got a little tricky, the included directions sucked. i think my wheel came with an integrated horn button, but my original horn never worked quite right anyway. i followed the directions to clip part of the wire off the horn button so that it can't ground on the steering wheel, however my horn doesn't work at the moment, i'm not sure if i did that part right. you take the horn button out of the wheel, pop it all apart to clip the part of the wire/spring that sticks out to ground against the steering wheel and then put it all back together.

steerage-011.jpg

pop the horn button back in, tighten the allen bolts that hold the steering wheel to the bracket

steerage-012.jpg

finished.

Yo,

One more that I just recalled you can use;

Cruise Control Switch Installation on Aftermarket Steering Wheel in an 84
Source: by steveg (Steve)

http://www.supermotors.net/registry/10351/59211

For a while now I've been wanting to use an aftermarket steering wheel to replace the thin stock steering wheel in my 84 Bronco. But, I didn't want to loose my cruise control (the switches on the steering wheel). I remembered that older Saleen Mustangs had the OE switches mounted behind the steering wheel with a special bracket. Of course finding someone that was willing to part with the original Saleen part would be near impossible. Amazingly enough, though, I found a machinist (MARK) that has made new brackets that allow the use of stock Mustang switches just like the original Saleen brackets. The bracket is designed to be used with Momo/Sparco/any steering wheel with the 6-bolt pattern but I drilled 4 holes in it so I could put it all together with a borrowed cheapo Grant style steering wheel while I make sure it all works.

BTW: Most Ford cruise control switches are interchangeable (the resistance values) through 1996.

I figured I'm not the only one that has wanted to do this & thought I'd post the info. I'll post the guys email address later in case anyone is interested.

A new bracket: PIC #1

My bracket after I drilled it for the 5-bolt ****** PIC#2

Installed on my Bronco (excuse the ugly steering wheel, it's not staying):

A couple pics of the bracket installed on a Momo steering wheel:
I got a response from Mark. He said he'd be happy to make more. I believe they are $85 and the come with the mounting screws for the switches. You will need to supply your own switches, but those should be relatively easy to come by at a wrecking yard. If anyone needs help with the wiring let me know.

You can email Mark directly for more information on purchasing the bracket.
