just got the brakes done on my new toy . first time to drive it i felt a bit of slack in the steering was inspecting the tie rods etc and noticed that the track bar, and drag link have bows in them like maybe someone wrapped a chain on them and bent them. are they supposed to be bent to clear the front differential? looking at pictures of new units they look straight.

thanks

scott

No, they should both be arrow straight. In addition to *these* issues take a look at the rag joint (that funny looking vulcanized rubber joint between the steering wheel & the steering box) to see if it's worn. Bad rag joints have a LOT to do w/poor 78/79 steering. There can be a lot of reasons and you can't start ruling anything out until you're sure of the base componants. A lot of guys replace worn rag-joints with Borgeson U-joints but first things first

thanks i didnt remember from my old one. yes the rag joint was trashed due to a leaking gear box seal i had fixed the rag joint and the seal already. ill replace the bent arms and seee what that does i am afraid that i need a new gear box as that is where alot of play is. it is tight up to the gear box and the joints are tight except for the right tie rod. it will get replaced with the others from being bent. thanks for the help. just picked up another addition tonight a 79 f250 with 460 and dana 60 rear still looking for the dana 60 frt. ill get those pulled next week and start working on them.

Yup, sounds like you're on the right track. Great score with that F250 with the 460 & D60. I'm guessing it was 2WD since there's no front D60 in the deal ? A 4x4 would have been nice not only for the axle but a spare NP205 can be a valuable thing. Regardless, you did good to grab whatcha got. Now you've got 3/4 of what it'll take to build one bada$$ Bronco. You'd have to work REAL hard to break a Bronco w/a 460, D60's and a 205. I can tell you that *I* couldn't break one and it wasn't for a lack of trying, ****, I even threw the keys to my Girl for a week or two at a time when I needed her ****** for long trips and even SHE couldn't break it (although she DID run more than a few poor innocents into the gutter by not paying attention).
