I just started overhauling the 92 bronco prior to my anticipated lift kit install and I was leaving the store and the gear shifter went limp right when i shifted into drive- now i have found Drive just to get me home and cant seem to locate any other gears other then reverse and neutral - if i can still finagle it barely into these gears I know its not completly severed from the tranny but if i try it again it will probably break and then I wont be able to get any thing out of it-

What do i do to fix this? its internal I think ??????

it is just about broken by the feel of it but I still catch three gears randomly but not park -

this is a real wrench in my spokes - any advice would be greatly appreciated

Sounds very similar to the problem I had with my '93 a while back. When I tried to shift out of park the shift lever just went limp. So, I'm stuck in park. Luckily I was in my driveway. By looking under the instrument panel and observing what was and wasn't moving when I jiggled the shift lever, I could tell that the problem was somewhere in the steering column area, instead of in the linkage going to the transmission. I then had to drop and disassemble the steering column to find the problem. In my case the problem was a broken 'shift tube'. You can see the part by going to www.genuinefordparts.com, then ->steering column ->housing and components ->shift tube ->view illustration (part #5).

The shifter tube was broken and the rod was bent....Bought everything at the dealer and also got a new shifter with overdrive off button. Install was real easy only took about an hour and now i'm back in business.
