I recently got my bronco running after sitting for 4 years. It has a 429 and started right up about a week ago. I turned it over about 20 times today and when I released the key to the ON position it started. From then on it will not fire in the start position, but everytime I release the key it attempts to fire. It is still turning over strong in the start position. Any ideas?
I will attempt to explain the issue in further detail. I have a 78 body on a 79 chassis. The engine is a 429 from a 67-69 thunderbird. I am running an edelbrock 650 carb. As far as I know, everything electrical is stock with the 78 body including the ignition. I disconnected the coil wire to check for spark. I am getting no spark when the engine is turning over with key in the START position. However when the key is released back to ON it fires once. If the engine catches upon release of the key, it runs no problem and I have driven it down the street without issue. The engine spins strong when trying to start, but I am getting no spark.
