i was starting on it tonight and when i went to shut the ignition off it still kept cranking. i think it's what the rod pushes on top of the colum. is there anyway to **** it or will it have to come apart?

thanks in advance

If it is the rod, then it is more likely the return spring in the ignition switch located on top of the steering column under the dash. The spring should push the rod back up when you release the key from the Start position. You should be able to feel the spring resistance when you put the key in the Start position. If you think it is the key cylinder binding, squirt a shot of WD40 in to it and work it around a bit.

Good luck,

:)>-

it's another cylinder out of my f150. i broke the plastic off the top of the colum and i can see the rod i pulled it back and it still turns over. where and what is the thing that the rod pushes in?

would it be easier to put the starter on like a push buttton or toggle switch?

i took the starter switch (what the rod goes in) out and it seems to be in working order. i hit around in there with a hammer and it stopped doin that until i tipped the key and it's staying turning over. could anything past that make this happen? thanks

new problem; i dont have ignition power. the lights will come on but as soon as i tip the key it blows a inline fuse on the harness; its black goin on the solenoid, then the lights go out until i put in another fuse. does anyone have any ideas where it could be shorting out?

any opinions are welcome/accepted/appricated!

thanks

you can loosen nuts on ignition switch and adjust the switch some if you think its the rod keeping it engaged i might suspect the ignition switch or the solenoid. both are pretty cheap and easy to replace. and both have been known to go bad on fords.
