I just purchased a 89 bronco and when you start it, it sounds like it barely has enough juice to start like if the battery was going bad, I had the battery and alternator tested and they are fine. I installed a new starter and it's still acting like that, but it does start everytime it just doesn't make me comfortable driving it. I see that you can buy a starter from bronco graveyard that is a high torque mini starter, is this something I should have or is it for high compression engine's? is this common for bronco starter's to act this way. It has the 351 winsor.

ANY ADVISE?

Thnaks

It's very likely that the starter solenoid is bad, causing the weak-start condition. The solenoid is located on the passenger-side inner fender, right by the battery. Check that the connections are clean first, and that the cables are clean, too. Check the solenoid after you crank the starter a few times to see if it's getting hot = bad. Careful don't burn your fingers on it.

Yes, I would get new + and - battery cables if they look corroded or rusty. Be sure and clean the ground where the - cable connects to the frame.

Rob,

I think you already know what the problem is.

Your cable connections.

The wires themselves don't go bad, so more often then not, if you just clean them well, you will be good to go.

Have a nice weekend
