I just installed a Centech wiring harness in a 75 Bronco. I have a stock electronic ignition and using the ballast resistor. When I turn the key to start, the starter engages, but when I release the key to run, the starter does not stop. Even if I turn the key to off. It stops when I remove the battery cable. It doesn't start running (starter) when I reconnect the battery till I turn the key to start again.

Anyone have any ideas.? I have replaced the solenoid and the same results.

Have the starter checked to see if it is still good. Mine did this a couple of months ago and I had it checked and it was good. I took a screwdriver and smacked the casing a couple of times and it doesn't do it now. It could be just hanging up. Also check that your starter cables are in good condition. Sometimes whent they are bad, i.e. cracks or just old cables, they will cause this problem. That is what part of my problem ended up being...just bad cables.

pull the wire off the starter solenoid/relay marked "s"- red with blk stripe on stock harness. put a test light on this wire while a friend turns the key to start and then releases- if the test light stays on, trace the wire back to the switch, and be sure there are no shorts to positive, but chances are this means a bad igition switch. If the light goes off when the key is released, go back to the solenoid/relay.

Found the problem. I had the red and white wire going to the ignition module reversed. Wired use the connector (wires are reversed) instead of what was coming out of the ignition module.

Thanks for your help

Chuck
