i have a 89 EB bronco with a 5.8L.
the spindle lock nut cracked in two places and and started loosening up. in turn the wheel bearings took a shit and created some play with the rotor. which then compressed the brake piston making a brake pad fall out and i lost all brakes. it was an interesting time to say the least.
i had a horrible day and when i went to take it all apart. i noticed my spindle crapped out on me too. stripped threads, melted wheel bearing. really ugly. anyways, in the heat of the moment i through it in a dumpster and went to bed. i got to a junk yard today and found another 89 bronco. except instead of manual hubs it had automatic. the guy at the counter looked up on his computer and he said there are two different size spindles that ford used. i think from 88-92. not sure. but one is 4 1/2" and the other is 5 3/4". it failed to state which setup each belonged to. i'm thinking maybe different size spindle maybe for the different hub. i have no idea. i am completely lost and its all ready to go back together. i just need the damn spindle and spindle nut. the nut i can get at autozone. thats not a problem. should i be concerned about which size i get? does it make a difference? and i ask that because i know its the same hub assembly (hub and rotor kit) no matter if its automatic or manual locking hubs. i would think that the rotating points would be the same then.
any suggestions or straight answers would be greatly appreciated. i get out of the army on tuesday and need it running to drive from oklahoma to wisconsin by friday. what a fun trip that'll be!
thanks,
jake
