I have a 1973 Bronco that I recently purchased. She runs great. And, the speedo works just fine up until like 60. Then after that, it jumps from 60 - 80 and back and forth like crazy. Is this normal? Can I fix this? If so, how?

Thanks.

It is fun to learn about all this, but sometimes I wonder if I am in way over my head...

Sure...

Un-hook both ends & squirt a good qual. **** (not W-D40) down the cable hole.

Use low air press. to help push it down the cable. Repeat several times.

(You can remove the cable, dis-assemble, clean, & insp. for frayed wire as well.)

If still no workie then the prob. may be in the head....this may req. service at a speedo shop.

Naw,........we all started right where you are. EB's are kind of an "American Volkswagon" .... there's nothing you can't take apart & fix. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I had the same problem. Look at the hole in the fire wall where the speedo cable passes through. Does it have a thich rubber plug that the cable goes through or is is just a hole in the fire wall? Mine had no rubber plug but when I ordered a new cable from EB it had the rubber plug. I figured that since the cable was coming through the fire wall hole and just resting on the hole cut out maybe it wasnt centered in the hole like the rubber plub does. Just for ducks I put a piece of rubber doubled up under the cable to make it centered so in the hole. Worked like a champ...... so I never put the new cable on.
