I know this is a rudimentary question, I'm an experienced mechanic, but I'm new to the Bronco.

What is the appropriate spark plug and gap (V8)?  (Parts store couldn't quite put their finger on it.)

Just want to make sure I have the optimum setup.

If it makes a difference, the truck I bought has a Mallory electronic ignition coil and distributor.

Thanks,

Jason

As you know, electronic ignition plug gaps are wider than a dizzy with points.

'72 EB's came with points.., so your aft. mkt. Mallory package is an add-on.

It's a very good set-up  & your plug gap is likely between .044 & .050

Shoot Mallory a note or call them to get a more specific setting.

If not mistaken, pointed ignitions are .034 plug gap  for the 302 V/8 so that's a 35%

increase/wider with the electronic set-up.

Hey Jason,

As Bully stated the electronic ignition with the matched coil can put out a lot higher voltage.  A gap of greater than .050 can be had with the right plugs that are designed for wider gaps. ( if you're running the original style plugs, the grounding  electrode is not designed for the larger gap.)

Another component to consider is the wires. If you widen the gap, the coil will keep supplying higher voltage to jump that gap. The wires have to be able to handle the  higher voltage as well.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck
