Hey all I just bought a 89 xlt and the spare is just sitting behind the rear seat. I don't have an exterior bracket like a lot of broncos i see and there are no holes in the fender where one would go either. Thanks for the help. Oops I guess I shouldn't have posted this in the "tech" section.

There was a factory spare tire mount inside some Broncos, on the passenger-side quarter panel behind the rear seat. If your's is missing, may be able to pick up a used one for $40-$50. It's possible the original one rusted out, as they tend to do that on the feet where it bolts to the floor. Welcome to Bronco Zone, JSM84

thanks I'll check it out. But all I saw before were two screws in the pass side behind the rear seat right below the window. Alright I found where it's supposed to go and I also found what it's supposed to look like from reading prior posts. Thanks for the help, next time I'll read further before I post.

No problem, the bronco tire carrier is quite different from those Chebbie blazers. Think they had a pocket in the side panel for the spare, but it was always easier to just keep it bolted or chained down to the floor. Same thing on the pick-ups, it's a PITA to have to fight with that crank and ratchet at 7:00 AM on a Sunday morning in the mud with mosquitoes buzzing in your face and 95 degrees... OK, rant is over. It's a good idea to secure the spare tire in some manner, so it doesn't become a missile in an accident. The rear seat anchor makes a nice point for a chain ot bolt to for the spare if laid flat JSM84

You definatly want to chain it down. I have a 33 inch spare floating around the back of my Bronco, has bounced off the roof many times. I have no idea why I still have windows with that thing flying around in the back. Haha

haha good call on the chain. That's exactly why I wanted to find a place to mount it. I dislike missiles flying around my truck. Not to mention losing the damn thing when I have my top off in the summer. And thanks for the welcome.
