Just picked up a 92 bronco for me and my girlfriend to enjoy on weekends. Truck is mint but I have one issue... The previous owner remove the swing out tire carrier before restoring the truck. Holes are filled and painted. I would like to install the inside tire carrier but not sure if it is possible. Has anyone done this? Thanks in advance!

If you can get one, it can be done without too much effort. If you look at the window trim on the right rear side, you will see a place that can be notched out for the bracket. Picture of mine after I installed it http://www.supermoto...ry/media/464514 . You may have to drill the holes for the legs. If you do use a large shoulder washer on either side of the wheel well to give extra strength so the bolt won't rip through.

Good luck,

Great info Seabronc. So I want to make sure I have this right. Behind the right rear plastic panel should be threaded holes to bolt the tire carrier to. Correct?

They may or may not be there, but there will at least be a place for them. For the top attachment near the window ledge I initially used self tapping blots but later used a regular nut and bolt. I had to drill the holes for the legs and used blots and a couple of large shoulder washers to give it more strength. One of the holes will be in the wheel well so seal it after with undercoat and the other will be slightly behind the wheel well, seal it also. It wouldn't hurt to use nuts, washers, and bolts for the window ledge attachment, (they don't have to be too big, small 1/4" bolts by about 1/2 or 3/4" long). I think I used 5/16 or 3/8 x 3/4 for the legs.

Can't give you a step by step because it has been too long since I did that, but it will become pretty clear as you get into it. Take the window trim off and look right where the notch is. You will see holes or two dimples where the blots go. If you are lucky there may already be holes with weld nuts on the inside.

You can't get much more than a 29 or 30 inch tire in that location.

Good luck,

So to make installing my 4-way lug wrench carrier easier, I swapped my spare Type 3 swingaway on. No problems. I could have swapped the swingaway frame onto my original squared body brackets, but I wanted to test this, and I might sandblast & powdercoat the old one."
