I am replacing the original tailgate, which came with spare tire carrier, with a tailgate that does not have the spare tire carrier assembly. I want the original

bronco look, with the spare, but having dealt with the original tailgate, i dont want it mounted as it was originally mounted. I want to go with a different type

of swing away tire carrier, ie. bumper mounted tire carrier, but i havent found very many for full size B-Co's. The ones i have seen look terrible. Anyone have any suggestions?

They are pricey if you don't make your own at about $700-1200. Check out BoncoAir and Proto Fab. Is there something wrong with the stock carrier? I've had great luck with mine over the years. I have 35's on my current Bronco and just had to weld up the gate from splitting not too long ago. I have about 190k and see a lot of dirt in my truck though.

with my stock carrier, my tailgate rattles alot. its not cheap to replace the tailgate, so when i do it this time, i dont want to have to do it again. i would rather spend the money for a bumper mounted carrier and have it last me 20 more years rather than have to worry about the weight of the tire carrier on my tailgate.

if my bronco came with the external tire carrier, (therefore with reinforcements at the quarter panel), could i install a tailgate from a donor B-Co that didnt come with the tire carrier. is there suppose to be reinforcement in the tailgate also??

You can, but you will need to add the support that goes on the inside of the tail gate. I happen to have one if you are interested. Or get one from a tail gate that has one, it bolts in without any major work.

If you have the reinforcement brackets in the 1/4 panel, you should have the tailgate bracket also.

Good luck,

:)>-

WWW.BroncoAir.com Awesome bumpers! I believe he has the rear bumper your talking about and looking for. It will cost you some money but I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. I've heard nothing but great things. Hope this helps. I will have both front and back bumper from him before long.
