well guys, i started my solid axle swap on saturday morning around 9am. around 6pm is when i was setting it down with its new axle in place. i put in a 78 d44 from an F150. my question is this... the pumpkin sits just a hair towards the center than the twin traction beam did. and because of this my exhaust is directly in the way of where the driveshaft should be. i have headman headers on my 351w and i actually had to bend the headers in towards the center before the swap to keep the collector at the end of the headers to keep from rubbing the driveshaft.

i see on broncograveyard that they sell a fenderwell exit header for the 460. does anyone know if they have those for a 351w? or of any other way i could address this problem?

other than all that. its bad ass looking.

thanks for any info in advance.

Thats where I was going to go with this. I plan to do the header and SAS swap in the future, and considering we are not racing anything, there is no need for full length headers. I plan to get a set of shorty's, and have the exhaust custom bent to fit what I want to do. And for the life of me I can not see the point in headers exiting the fenderwell on any truck that does anything but go in a straight line. Why waste the clearance?

bronconator, I agree with the other posts in that I know of no brand of longtube headers that will work with the Dana44 SAS in a fullsize Bronco or F-150 with a 351W V8. Even with a 460 like I have in the 84 Bronco and the Dana60 SAS, your options are shorty headers, stock manifolds or the FE headers. The nytou may have issues with tire rub on the FE headers with a 460, It may be possible to modify your current Hedman headers to fit around a stock driveshaft, but that also usally needs to be modified when doing the SAS. L&L Products makes headers for SAS swaps, and would be the only source I know of that may have a solution for you. JSM84
