I bought a 79 bronco a week or two ago and it didn't come with a front driver side shock. Its lifted but im not exactly sure how much. The bumbers are on the stock mounts and its only suspension lift and the bumpers are sitting at about 31" high....So i was looking on bronco graveyard and i noticed that the shocks that are listed for the same amount of lift have different lengths...why is that? what should i get for shocks? Im only going to do the front for now mainly because theres one missing...

Thanks

Mike

I would measure the other side's shock. Take it off, and neasure the body, plus extended and compressed lengths. Another option (what I'm doing on my 78 and 84) is to cycle the suspension, then measure what size shocks will fit.

well the reason they have different lengths are that if you have the quad shock option theres two shocks on each side...the front one is longer and the one behind it is smaller...same on the other side...

Oh so its not that the passenger side is different from the driver side its just if you have two shocks on both sides?

What is the benefit to quad shocks?

Now im looking at these shocks not very specifically but it shows what i'm talking about...

http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-23430_...ont_of_axle.htm

http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-23432_...ear_of_axle.htm

See how there different lengths?

Is that what i would order if i were doing a single shock on both sides? And the longer one (front of axle) would go drives side cause that shock mount is in front of the axle and the shorter one (rear of axle) would go on the passenger side because that shock mount is behind the axle?

quad shocks was a factory option on broncos and trucks, its just like an upgrade basically, most broncos have quad shocks from what i have seen, it mainly just makes for a little better handaling and stiffer front end, could help in towing applications also, i run quad in the front of my truck and id never go any less than that, stick with the quads and you will be better off
