When I go to start my truck sometimes I have to SLAM the shifter into P or it wont start. Neutral switch I'm guessing. However, when putting the truck into gear, the selector doesn't show where I am. It's like the shift cable is stretched or something? I figure I can either tighten it (if that's on option) or just replace it. This tranny stuff is WAY out of what I know right now and was looking for someone who can say "look here" or "do this" or "shit man, that sucks, let us know how you fix it" or anything else. THANKS!

also, As of 1994, the neutral safety switch is referred to as a Manual Lever Position Sensor (MLPS).

E4OD Shift Lever Stuck in Park Source: by ATC-Distribution Group Inc. atcdg.com

"These (and many other) vehicles are equipped with a Brake/Shifter interlock for safety. This system requires the driver to hold the brake depressed before the shift lever can be moved from the Park position. There is an actuator (solenoid) on the left side of the steering column under the dash that disengages the shifter lock when the brake is depressed. In the event this system malfunctions, the shift lever may be stuck in the Park position. One cause of this complaint may be due to a faulty brake switch circuit. If you experience this complaint always check for blown fuses and brake light switch operation before proceeding with other work."
