Okay, I have a question. I have an 89 with the 302 in a 4 speed. I am not totally sure if it is my clutch or not. My truck would not start the other day, it had plenty of battery power but just would not turn on. I thought it was the starter so I push started it, and got it to fire up, as soon as I took it out of 2nd I could not get it into gear again, any gear. It has been shifting a little hard lately but not something I thought was going to go right away. Now, it wont start and I can not roll start it due to the fact that it will not shift when rolling, or when in gear and clutch is pressed it wont roll. Just as if the clutch is not working. Please let me know what you think. And what a resonable price for the parts would be(educated guess) I will shop around, but I want to know what I am looking for in ranges of price. Thank you all for your help.

It always has had to be pressed firmly to the floor to start, there isn't really a change in how it feels now to how it did feel, except it will not start, and it will not shift if moving or running. I can check the fluid and what not. I am not very mechanically inclined but I have some buddies that can help me out. Thank you.

Ok give this a try; Some times manuals, older ones at least, have an adjutment down at the transmission usually attached to what looks like a spork that juts out from the transmission and a bolt with a few nuts and a ball at the end that meets at the spork. If your lucky enough you can adjust that and get the clutch working for a little bit. If it does work that means your clutch is about done. If you cant get that to work you may have broken the shifting fork inside the transmission. Usually you can take the top plate off in the cab throught sheet metal plate bolted to the floor pan. FYI, If you want to check the fluid it would have a plug on it that you would check it similiar to a wheel hub.

A few things though. Does your shift move around easily in side the box? Does it want to act like its going to go into gears if you shift it around?

It may have a safety switch acutated by the clutch as a safety feature. I know of diesels that have that feature. Get your Chilton out and see if there is a clutch saftey switch. Start with that. Especially if you have power to the lights and what not. There may be a neutral safte switch as well.. You'll have to get the book out and do some trouble shooting.

it would definatly have a clutch safty switch, but considing the othe symtoms you are describing and the fact that your pedal feels mostly the same i would say the cable may be stretched out and you may need to replace that......there is an ajustment on it so try to tighten it up first, you will have a problem engaging the starter if the truck is jammed in gear and the clutch isn't doing its job
