I have started painting my 1971 bronco with sem hotrod black. i love the finish it is giving me but i am wondering about using a satin clear. what i am wondering is will a satin clear protect the paint better from the sun, will it make it not polish if i rub it with a cloth, will it make it so i can buff out scatches? what are the pros and cons of using/ not using the clear? any advice would be great.

Wow, nice! Great questions! I'm not sure we have anyone in the forum that can answer those questions. I would visit my local automotive paint store or an auto body place tat does custom painting and see what they have to say. Then,if you would, please post what you find out. I'm sure someone else would benefit from what you find out. Another possibility is one of the paint and paint product suppliers that are on the net. Most of them have 800 numbers to call and I'm sure they will have the answers you are looking for. These guys come to mind http://www.eastwood.com/ but also check around your own area.

Good luck,

Love the hotrod black.

Paints start at flat go too satin, semigloss, gloss. If you painted the truck semi gloss, put a semigloss clear on it. If you polish it too get the trail pinstiping off it might get glossier then the rest of the rig. I would use the same paint brand of clear and test a little in a good place. I paint often because of mods or trail digs and trail pinstripping(trees, brush, mud, rock rubbing rig). I Like Metallic blue Rustloium and tape off a section and scuff and sand and repaint (spray can). I also pressure wash the underside really well about once a year and touch up rust and bare steel with the semi glosss black.

Good Luck
