I just moved to Texas from Alaska I picked my Bronco up from Dallas and was driving it home and it was running really hot the temp would increase whenever i wasnt moving but once i started driving it would go back down when i stopped to check under the hood the grill and the hood were hot to the point i needed a rag to pop the hood the coolant overflow tank was bubbling and leaking antifreeze by the time i finally got it home i had hardly any coolant left what can i do solve this problem i didn't think a 30 degree increase in temp would cause it to act like that

I'm with you, I wouldn't expect to see that happen just from 30*.

I would check the t-stat to see if it is bad

In addition to checking the T-stat, I'd go through the entire cooling system, do a complete flush. What kind of fan do you have, is it factory mechanical or electric? You may have to increase the size of your radiator and if you don't have one, add a transmission fluid cooler. Do you have A/C and if so were you running it? Also, what is the antifreeze level in your system? You can use a lower percentage in a place like TEXAS than Alaska, the higher the percentage of water the better it cools.

From your description of over heating when stopped and cooling back down when moving sounds to me like fan problems or a radiator that is not working effectively. With a standard mechanical fan and water pump, they are the least effective when idling. My fan only comes on below 30 MPH on the hottest days with surface temperatures in excess of 130 degrees. In cool weather, it only comes on when I'm setting at a light for about 3 minutes or more and in the winter it rarely comes on at all. Granted my cooling system is a little larger than most, (over sized radiator, 4200 CFM fan, and a clean system).

Good luck,

:)>-
