I've got a problem guys. I'm replacing my rotors and came into a situation. I thought i t would be a pretty simple thing to do, but I realized it takes a few special tools to complete my task. I can't figure out how to seperate my rotor from the hub. Then theres the speedometer sensor. What have I got myself into?

Any info would help.

Thanks

What yr are you working on ? There should be no speedometer sensor, Maybe if its like a 96 there might be something there for antilocks but not thinking so . To get the rotor off the hub you must pound the lug nut studs back through the rotor then the 2 will seperate . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Sorry, no pics, I allready got the sensor rings off and put everything back together. I removed the sensor rings (one on each side) with a 3 jaw gear puller.

They had to be removed to get the rotor free from the hub.

Thanks for the replies.

It is the ABS sensor. I had to remove mine a few months back. I had to use a special puller in the automotive shop at school. Then I had to use a hydraulic press to get it back on. I don't think it can be done with basic hand tools.

I'm doing the same thing to my 91. I can't get the outer gear out of the hub. Any clues?

There's a special 4WD socket you have to have to get the rotors off from Autozone or a similar store.

If you look close around the inner surface of the hub, there is a ring that you need to remove. I use a pick to get the end of it out and then it comes out no sweat. Once it is out you will be able to remove the gear.

Good luck,

:)>-

I just had to replace a rotor on my 93, the speed sensor ring can be pulled off with a puller from autozone or kragen. Or you can carfully beat the rotor off the ring with a hammer. Just make sure you use a block of wood to put it back on. If you break one of the little nubs off the ring, when you brake it will think that the wheel is locked up and your brakes start acting up.

I just did mine the other day. If any body needs to know just knock the studs through the rotor and use them to tap the ABS ring off. I just used a hammer to place it back on the hub after the new rotor was installed. It looks intimidating at first because it looks like it's part of the hub but it comes off pretty easy.

When re-installing the hub can you just knock the rotor back on? Or will the pressure from attaching the wheel hold it in place?
