i am looking for any ideas/ pictures of home made "yakama" or "safari" style roof racks. i am wanting to make one but have no idea where to begin.

Easy as all heck to make one.. granted you know how to weld and cut angles with metal pipes.

I personally like square tubes vs round tubes for the frame.

Start by measuring how big you want it to be.. Start with the bottom frame structure. I personally would put black mesh for the bottom. Then measure how tall you want the basket rim. Create the top rim per the same size as the bottom - Then hold it above the bottom and eye picture how high you want the walls. I'm going with 8" tall sides.

Cool thing with making your own..is youc an weld on your own hooks and light mounts.
