I assume this is for a 302 or a 351. What is the duration of the cam at .050".The 260 and 270 number is advertised duration. The .050" is a more accurate reading. It's will probably be some where around 210 degree's duration at .050". You will be able to use your stock pushrod's. But depending on the cam you may have to change your valve spring's to one's with more open and closed pressure.Since the rocker's are the pedestel mount type ,they make shim's that will go under the rocker arm to give you the extra clearance you might need to keep from hitting your piston's.I would say that there isn't enough lift on that cam to smack your valve's into your piston's.

i have .500 lift on my truck on the exhaust side and .480 lift on the intake. see signature for more details their is a link to my cam specs... now the problem is with the 1.7 rocker ratio. stock is 1.6 so their is more lift in the 1.7 combined with the lift of the cam u will be close to or over .500 lift and more than .500 lift and u will have measure the piston to valve clearence. when fully open. you should also replace the push rods with a good set designed to take more abuse than the stockers. i also needed longer pushrods for my cam and new valve springs with internal damper. i think yours is a 351 94 right?? so u have roller lifters an cam so make sure the cam u picked out fits this app.

i used my stock pushrods and install the cam and then measured the valve lash with the rockers torqued down. it should just press down into the lifters too much and it will hold the valves open too little and the pushrods will rattel around....not good.

i just searched my house for the part number for the comp cam pushrods that i used ...no dice but i did find the edelbrock timing chain set part number is 7814 and the roller lifters are from ford racing part number M-650-R302 both i got from jegs.. valve springs i got from iskycams where i got the camshaft. i also used a complete engine rebuild ford racing gasket set from jegs just do a search on their websight to find it.

keep in mind all these changes will effect the computer and timing on the engine i think im running at 16deg btdc but you will have to fine tune yours to how it runs best with out pinging. I also have to run 93oct. fuel now as well. pricey at 2.30+ a gallon and getting 9-12 Mpg. let us know what else u want to do and what brand the camshaft is.

thanks..

joshua

and good luck on your engine build up. we would love to see some pics of it and how it progresses

Well, I have a set of shorter pushrods (unsure of size and number) that are hardend steel I believe. Also, I'm going with the flat tappit camshaft and hydrolic lifters. I am juggling work, duty and being a dad with this rebuild so it may take a minute to do. Well, any other advice would be great!

you will be taking a step back if you use the flat tappit lifters, the 94 351 came with roller lifters and is far better than the flat tappit.... ie less drag last longer. plus i dont think they make a kit to install flat tappit in a roller block. i think the holes are drilled bigger. some one elso might know better then me though. i would look at this cam.... might fit your needs better.... http://iskycams.com/productdisplay.php?pro...1&dealer=no

also u will have to change your distributer gear as will the camshafts are hardened differently between flat tappit and roller

I dont think the holes are bigger because you can get a kit to go from flat tappet to roller. However I do believe the lifter bores on the roller motor are deeper and that could cause a problem for you.

Okay, at .050 the duration is 204 int and 214 exh. I have another question about this same application, what is a speed density sensor and do I have one and if I do then is there a way around it? I do appriciate all the help from everyone. I don't want to break this thing.
