At the moment, I get about 8-9 mpg. New plugs (old ones burned perfect, even after about 10 months), new plug wires (Thundervolt's) and new cap/rotor (MSD set). I used Lucas injector cleaner, new air filter and fuel filter (basicly a tune-up) in an attempt to improve this. The engine runs good, and I can't see it burning that much fuel; there's no obvious reason for the engine to need to, runs strong enough. The trans also has the same problem Broncosaurus! mentioned earlier; when the trans is cold, even with the motor warming up for 5-10 minutes, when I put it in drive, it won't move. Reverse, yes, but not forward. It also shifts hard, like it's slamming into gear almost. It jolts the truck whenever it does it; not every time, but most times when it shifts it does this.

After doing some thinking and research/price browsing, I realize I'm not sure if I'd need to get a C-6 that's made for 4x4, or if any C-6 with the right bellhousing will work, as the t-case will swap over. And what exactly is a shift kit?

And at what rpm does anyone else's C-6 shift at? Mine shifts into first around 1900-2700, almost randomly. I don't slam the gas, I don't "race" anyone off the line, and I'm easy on the brakes unless forced otherwise. And it has a new shift cable from the throttle body to the trans.

Any info would be awesome. Thanks.

First of all who replaced the cable from the throttle body to the tranny? If this is out of adjustment you will experience some of these symptoms that you stated. Have someone qualified to adjust it have a look. You will need a tranny from a 4x4 because the tailshaft and output shaft are different, although it is possible to convert its really not worth it unless you truly have no other option. How do you know for sure that it is a C-6? Now the shift kit, a tranny shifts from hydraulic pressure built up through a mess of arteries inside the transmission. The shift kit re-routes the fluid and builds more hydraulic pressure inside the tranny in order to make quicker and firmer shifts, when a stock tranny shifts gears there is a small amount of clutch slippage, when you are hauling a heavy load or loading the engine some other way like maybe in the mud, the shifts will result in even more slippage in the clutches resulting in decreased life. Sorry if this doesnt make sense or if I missed something, I am typing over my supper plate so mistakes can happen. Anymore questions dont hesitate

if its a C6 then kickdown being out of alightment wouldnt make it shift weird...i ran my truck with no kickdown when i first put the C6 in and all my other C6's i have never ran a kickdown they all held up perfectly fine...check the fluid smell it...if it smells like a pukish **** scent...your tranny is most likely burnt

Have you tried that stuff that Seafom makes for the trans. I hear it's pretty good. Helps clean it and flush out all kinds of gum and varnish build up.

I have a '79 F-250 with a C-6 mounted to a 460. There is a shiftdown rod there, but it's not connected. Never have any shifting issues or trans issues at all. It's not a 4wd truck, but I can't imagine where that would really matter.

the kickdown rod/cable is there mainly for passing gear..when you step down on it it drops it into 2nd or 1st.
