If the level is in the ADD section of the dipstick, then you should add oil.

If it is between ADD and FULL, then it is your option to add some, remember, you do not have to add an entire quart! AND you don't want to overfill it. Whatever you don't add now, you can add later, or use it as lubricant in a squirt oil can.

No, as Joe mentioned the best thing to do is to add *part* of a 6th quart and see if that does it. There are a lot of variables. The hoses will add some capacity to the system and so will a remote filter (as opposed to the internal tranny filter) it may be that you need a full 6th quart, maybe 6.5 or maybe only .5. You'll have to slowly add it in 1/4 or 1/2qt at a time until the dipstick indicates the tranny pan is at the correct level.

What type of filter does your have ? A duel filter arrangement will take even more. It's not hard to troubleshoot, just be patient and add it in aout 1/4qt at a time giving it a few minutes to settle out & remembering to ck it while hot.

it turned needing exactly 6 quarts, the filter is a spin on type from NAPA, it would cross over the a Motorcraft FL1A. Just had never run into to a remote style. Makes it a bit easier when changing the oil. Thanks for the help
