I smoked my motor a few months ago...seems that if you leave the engine running and forget to turn on the electric fans, that's a bad combination...especially if you come back outside after about 30 min and it's not running...

Anyway, i can get it to start again and it does run and idle, but it's time for a rebuild anyways. I'm wondering what I could do. I was going to yank it and replace it with a 460. Instead I'm thinking that if I put the money it would cost to swap in a 460 into the 351w I'd be better off. I'd be happy to get this motor running again because it has been really good to me.

What's known out there that can help me get a little more juice out of this motor. I'm still running factory manifolds/timing/distributor/heads/etc. I think the only thing that is not stock is the mallory ignition, and even that is something I'd like to update on it.

You can do something as mild as a different camshaft, changing heads for better combustion, or wild as changing the 351W into a "stroker" with boring & a larger crankshaft. If you have a good machine shop in your area, talk to them about the various mods you might want to do. You will at least want them to work the block and heads, check them for any cracks. If you overheated the motor, it's likely you damaged the block as well as the internal bearings.

If you have the cash get a bolt on blower ($3000) to add a few pounds of air pressure into the intake. Its an extra 100hp...
