Hey again Guys.

My 87 fullsize is no prize and Im not looking for it to be...it is a woods/mud truck. My back window no go up or down...me need 2 fix. But..lol...Im not interested in restoring the factory dash switch and making the tailgate key work it up and down. I just want power straight to the moter via an inline fuse and toggle switch staright to the motor to make it go up and down....all i want is up and down...I dont ask much else of the rear of my truck. So does anyone have tips on the wire colors from the motor and can say which is up down power ground etc. basically I want to run new wire from the battery just to enable the motor to raise and lower the window. any ideas experience knowledge know how or diagrams are appreciated.

I can tell you the redneck way of figuring this out....

take the panel off...tear off the outer coating off of the wires going to the window motor. take a pair of jumper cables, connect one end to a battery...connect the other end and place the positive clamp on one wire and place the negative clamp on the other wire...which ever wire is the positive it will make the window react ...switch them around and they will react in the opposite direction... (ie if the window goes down then the positive clamp is the wire that operates the down direction...)

Don't forget to be drinking some beer before you try this.

I am not responsible for electrical accidents. Try this at your own risk.

(Did this to an 84 Bronco ...not the one I'm currently trying to sell...worked like a charm)

Well, unfortunately ground for the motor goes thru the dash switch. To just put in a toggle will not work. It would take a double pole switch with a center off position. It would probably be less work to just fix the problem rather than jurry rig it.

Wratchet is right, that is a quick and dirty way to find out if the motor is the problem. If that doesn't work then the motor or the drive gear is bad.

Unless you have trashed a switch, I wouldn't have the switches high on the suspect list. If neither switch works the problem is most likely the safety switch in the left gate latch or the ground return path. Try pushing in on the left side of the tail gate and turning the switch.

Attached is a diagram of the tail gate circuit.

Good luck,

:)>-
